Instead, we set out to uncover the latest and niche unpopular opinions that&#8217;ve been creating some buzz online these days. Out with the old, in with the new!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To unveil this year\u2019s current controversial opinions, we headed to Reddit\u2019s \/unpopularopinion\/controversial thread and assembled the 15 most upvoted opinions in 2023. From this, we conducted a nationwide survey to measure whether Americans agree or disagree with these contentious views. Here\u2019s what the nation has to say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Key Findings:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>74.7% of Americans unite in agreement on the unpopular opinion that \u201cyou\u2019re not vegetarian if you eat fish.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Americans were almost evenly split on two statements: \u201cthere\u2019s no valid reason to hate Meghan Markle or Prince Harry\u201d and \u201cSeinfeld isn\u2019t as funny as people make it out to be!\u201d&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>89.8% disagree with a majorly unpopular opinion: \u201csitting on the beach is a waste of a vacation.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Top (un)popular opinions Americans stand by<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Reddit is well-known for their directness and honest opinions, but do you know who else is famous for their passionate views? Americans. Here are some of the unpopular Reddit opinions that a significant majority of Americans solidly agree with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/US_Reddits_Hot_Takes_IG-1.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"2000\" height=\"3475\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/US_Reddits_Hot_Takes_IG-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-36164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/US_Reddits_Hot_Takes_IG-1.png 2000w, https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/US_Reddits_Hot_Takes_IG-1-1100x1911.png 1100w, https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/US_Reddits_Hot_Takes_IG-1-480x834.png 480w, https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/US_Reddits_Hot_Takes_IG-1-840x1460.png 840w, https:\/\/www.casino.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/US_Reddits_Hot_Takes_IG-1-420x730.png 420w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 15.7k Redditors and <strong>74.7% of survey respondents united in agreement that \u201cyou\u2019re not vegetarian if you eat fish.\u201d<\/strong> This may seem obvious to some, but the pescatarian diet has blurred the lines for many. One Reddit user even commented \u201cTrue! I worked with a guy who ate fish but no other meat (well, except eggs) and he said he won\u2019t eat anything with a neck.\u201d Clearly his co-worker has never watched Finding Nemo as \u201cfish are friends, not food.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking a health-conscious stance, <strong>61.1% also agree that \u201ccigarettes should be banned\u201d.<\/strong> Yet with 30.3k upvotes on Reddit, there\u2019s been a lot of back and forth in the thread. While many Redditors support the idea of banning cigarettes, others argued against prohibition, stating \u201cban banning things\u201d. Surprisingly enough though, past and current smokers chimed in and also agreed with the majority of Americans on their stance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">United States of America? More like Divided States of America<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here ye, here ye &#8211; <strong>\u201cthere\u2019s no valid reason to hate Meghan Markle or Prince Harry,\u201d says 56.4% of Americans.<\/strong> The original poster (OP) wrote \u201cthey\u2019re allowed to share their thoughts about the royal family\u2026it feels like a hate train people are joining because it\u2019s popular.\u201d This sentiment seems to resonate with slightly more than half of the nation. However, the opinions were closely divided, as one Redditor jokingly remarked, \u201cHarry, is that you? What have we told you about seeking validation on social media?\u201d &#8211; representing the <strong>43.6% who do see a valid reason to maintain negative feelings<\/strong> towards the once royal couple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHello Newman\u201d, sorry to break it to you but a little over half <strong>(52.9%) of the country thinks \u201cSeinfeld isn\u2019t as funny as people make it out to be!\u201d<\/strong> The OP reveals their struggle to find entertainment with the show and states, \u201cI\u2019m currently at the beginning of season six after kind of torturing myself through the first five\u2026I don\u2019t know what all the hype is about and how it could be unbelievably successful.\u201d The defense of this controversial opinion, however, argues, \u201cthe people under 30 don\u2019t get it either because the show is driven by human interactions.&#8221; Fair enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>(No) Thank you, next! Unpopular opinions that remains unpopular<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing about us, Americans, is we have a strong fondness for comfort aka leisurewear and pajamas. However, an OP clearly woke up on the wrong side of the bed, and sparked a debate, declaring <strong>\u201cpajamas are stupid and unnecessary tradition.\u201d <\/strong>An astounding<strong> 84.7% of respondents strongly disagrees<\/strong>, with over 14.1k Redditors ready to defend pajamas\u2019 honor. One user pointed out, \u201cnot sleeping in pajamas isn\u2019t the problem, the problem is who the hell sleeps in jeans in bed on purpose.\u201d Touch\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you <em>sea<\/em> what this OP <em>seas<\/em>? An overwhelming <strong>85% of Americans oppose this unpopular opinion: \u201cseafood is disgusting\u201d.<\/strong> OP goes on to rant that \u201cthey look good, but the texture, the taste, and the overall experience of eating them, it just disgusts me\u201d. A curt, but not harsh, response of \u201csorry your palate sucks\u201d perfectly encapsulates the general belief shared across the nation.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>\u201cSitting on a beach is an absolute waste of a vacation,\u201d<\/strong> says no one ever &#8211; oh wait, except for one Redditor who clearly doesn\u2019t know how to vacation properly. A whopping <strong>89.8% of Americans disagree entirely<\/strong> with the very unpopular opinion. Despite the mass disagreement, the thread accumulated 11k upvotes of indifferent responses. The top comment stated, \u201cpeople enjoy vacations differently, when you plan your own you can do what you want\u2026I can only stand it as long as there\u2019s things to do or beer in the cooler.\u201d It seems that cold beer on the beach is a solution for OP!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the end, Reddit and America never fails to provide us with intriguing hot takes. If you\u2019re seeking some icebreakers for future social events or, dare we suggest, first dates, look no further than our very own curated list of the current top 15 most controversial opinions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Methodology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In July 2023, we delved through Reddit\u2019s \/unpopularopinion thread and refined our search to only \u2018controversial\u2019 and \u2018this year\u2019 posts. To uncover the 15 most controversial and unpopular opinions, we only gathered posts with at least 10k upvotes. After careful curation, we surveyed 1,500 U.S. residents to analyze if they agree or disagree with such views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The average age of respondents was 38.6 years old.
