(Image: <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In a video posted to Twitter earlier today in which he states his views do not reflect those of other <em>Barstool <\/em>staffers, Portnoy touches on myriad topics, including the Constitution, concerns about gay rights, and voting habits.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"main-blockquote\"><p><strong>The left f&#8212;&#8211;g hates me. The woke left, the liberals, they\u2019re crazy. They\u2019re insane people. Yet, I end up having to vote for a moron like (President Joe) Biden because the right is going to put Supreme Court people in who are just ruining this country, taking basic rights away,&#8221;<\/strong> he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Emergency Press Conference &#8211; We Are Going Backwards (avoid if you don\u2019t wanna hear me talking politics) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mDTmuQahcc\">pic.twitter.com\/mDTmuQahcc<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Dave Portnoy (@stoolpresidente) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/stoolpresidente\/status\/1540356814579146753?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">June 24, 2022<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><em>Barstool Sports<\/em> is a unit of Penn National Gaming (NASDAQ:PENN). In January 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/penn-national-is-buying-stake-in-barstool-sports-valuing-it-at-450-million\/\">Penn paid $163 million<\/a> for a 36% stake in Portnoy\u2019s company, with rights to eventually own the sports media property outright for $450 million. Earlier this year, the regional casino operator said it\u2019s aiming to own all of <em>Barstool <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/penn-national-plans-750m-buyback-full-ownership-of-barstool-sports\/\">at some point in 2023<\/a>. Penn did not issue an official statement on Portnoy\u2019s rant, nor did it publicly comment on the Roe v. Wade decision.<\/p>\n<h2>Gaming States\u2019 Abortion Regulations<\/h2>\n<p>Nevada, where Penn operates the M Resort in Henderson outside of Las Vegas, and Cactus Pete\u2019s in Jackpot, is one of nine states with abortion rights. Those rights are protected under the state constitution. <strong>In the largest gaming state, pregnancies can be terminated up to 24 weeks.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m disappointed to see this decision from the Supreme Court \u2014 it will rip away critical health care and the right to choose for millions &amp; undoubtedly cause harm. As long as I\u2019m Governor, Nevada will continue to fight for reproductive rights &amp; expand access to healthcare,\u201d said Gov. Steve Sisolak (D-NV) on Twitter earlier Friday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p>Conversely, Missouri, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/missouri-casino-workers-can-sue-penn-national-for-wage-violations\/\">where Penn operates<\/a> the Argosy in Riverside and the Hollywood and River City casinos in St. Louis, is the first state to ban abortion following the Supreme Court decision. Other commercial casino operators in that state include Caesars Entertainment and Century Casinos. Other states with abortion \u201ctrigger\u201d laws with heavy casino footprints are Louisiana and Mississippi &#8212; the state that brought the case to the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>For Portnoy\u2019s part, he\u2019s being true to his word. Though he\u2019s heavily critical of President Biden, he said on a May episode of his podcast that he\u2019d vote for Democrats if Roe v. Wade was overturned.<\/p>\n<h2>Company Comments<\/h2>\n<p>As of this writing, a slew of companies across a variety of industries issued statements on the Supreme Court decision, with many saying they\u2019ll cover employees\u2019 expenses if travel is necessary for an abortion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Gaming companies aren\u2019t on the list as of yet. But as some of the largest employers in the states in which they operate, it\u2019s likely the issue is on their radars.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>ESPN<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/espn-sportsbook-could-lead-to-possible-buy-of-rsi-or-pointsbet\/\">parent Walt Disney<\/a>, which also owns a passive stake in DraftKings, will reportedly reimburse staffers for abortion-related travel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Barstool Sports founder David Portnoy laid into the Supreme Court today following the controversial decision to overturn Roe v.
