James has actually posted the most career points in the regular-season and playoffs, with 45,491 points. But the scoring record he is currently pursuing only counts regular season games.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p>If James maintains his current career scoring average of 27.2 points per game, he&#8217;ll set the new NBA scoring record in a home game against the Milwaukee Bucks on February 9. Placing a prop bet on DraftKings that James will break the scoring record during that matchup pays out +180 odds.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Of course, injuries could slow down James&#8217; pursuit of the scoring record. He&#8217;s had his fair share of injuries as a member of the Lakers, missing 95 games over the last five seasons. He missed 27 games in 2018-19, five games in 2019-20, 27 games in 2020-21, 26 games in 2021-22, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/lebron-james-exits-groin-injury-lakers\/\">10 games this season<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Head coach Darvin Ham could also rest James because of load management, with two upcoming back-to-back games. The Lakers play the Los Angeles Clippers and San Antonio Spurs this week on consecutive nights. Abdul-Jabbar perfected the sky hook, which was impossible to defend against the 7-foot-2 Hall of Fame center.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wilt Chamberlain held the previous record with 31,419 points before Abdul-Jabbar passed him on April 5, 1984, while playing for the Lakers. Abdul-Jabbar played five more seasons with the Lakers before he retired at the end of the 1988-89 season, setting the all-time record at 38,387 points.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It took 34 years, but someone will finally catch Abdul-Jabbar.<\/p>\n<p>Abdul-Jabbar only attempted 18 3-pointers in his career, and he connected on just one. Abdul-Jabbar knocked down 6,712 free throws and 15,837 total baskets during his career for 38,387 points.<\/p>\n<div class=\"callout\">\n<p>Abdul-Jabbar spent the first six seasons of his career with the Milwaukee Bucks, before playing 14 seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. In six seasons with the Bucks, Abdul-Jabbar scored 14,211 points and averaged 30.4 points per game. In 14 seasons with the Lakers, Abdul-Jabbar averaged 22.1 points per game.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>James scored 7,126 points in 260 games as a member of the Lakers, while averaging 27.4 points per game. He scored 7,919 points in 294 games during four seasons with the Miami Heat, while averaging 26.9 points per game.
