They explained that he is neither a community threat nor a flight risk. They also claim that their client\u2019s self-incriminating statements about his role in Shakur\u2019s murder, which he self-published in a 2019 book, were made for \u201centertainment purposes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In <em>Compton Street Legend: Notorious Keffe D\u2019s Street-Level Accounts of Tupac and Biggie Murders, Death Row Origins, Suge Knight, Puffy Combs, and Crooked Cops,<\/em>\u00a0Davis placed himself in the car with the assassin who shot the rap superstar on the corner of Flamingo Road and Koval Lane on Sept. 7, 1996. Shakur, 25, died six days later from his injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Davis didn&#8217;t name the assassin.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_303944\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-303944\" data-style=\"width: 430px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-303944\" src=\"https:\/\/www.casino.org\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/famous-photo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"383\" \/><figcaption  id=\"caption-attachment-303944\"class=\"text-description\">Minutes after this photo was taken, Tupac Shakur (shown driven by music mogul Suge Knight) was fatally shot. (Image: Corjuni)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Murder Was the Case That They Gave Me<\/h2>\n<p>The state claims that Davis orchestrated the drive-by shooting. Davis has pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n<p>In the new court filing, Davis&#8217; attorneys wrote that prosecutors presented the grand jury with \u201can astounding amount of hearsay\u201d from witnesses with questionable credibility, and that they \u201cdid not introduce any independent evidence connecting Duane Davis to the shooting,\u201d other than what Davis wrote in the book and said in interviews promoting the book.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"main-blockquote\"><p><strong>The book and video interviews were produced for a financial benefit under the belief that Duane had immunity,\u201d<\/strong> Davis\u2019 lawyers wrote, referring to an offer that the Los Angeles Police Department made to Davis to cooperate with its investigation into the 1997 death of rapper Notorious B.I.G., which many people believe was committed in retaliation for Shakur\u2019s murder.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Davis\u2019 lawyers said he believed the immunity he received from LAPD also gave him immunity in the Las Vegas case.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors have previously said that they won&#8217;t seek the death penalty if Davis is found guilty.
