]]>Honestly I’ve only had that long of a wait twice, and both times were in conjunction with conventions. Like I said I guess we just get lucky with when we arrive. For our annual trip there might be ten folks in line ahead of us at check-in. If there was that big of a line, then yes I would certainly give the machine a shot.
]]>Within each room category, there are some rooms that would be considered “last sell” by the Front Desk. For example: Rooms next to ice/vending, adjacent to guest or service elevators, or with an anti-view (HVAC systems, loading docks, or a brick wall just a few feet from the window). I suppose it’s possible that CET created a hierachy of room within each category, I don’t think that’s likely. If their PMS works like most, the room that is auto-assigned during a human-free check-in will probably be one of the least desirable…because that room hasn’t been occupied for as many nights as the better rooms.
In my book, checking in with a human is worth waiting in line.
Side Note: Have you ever wondered why it Front Desk agents spend so much time clicking on their computer during your check-in? It might because they moving you out of the auto-assigned guest room into a better one within the same category.
